Avoid Summer Reading Regression
Many children lose ground in reading over the summer, and begin the school year at a level lower than what they achieved the previous year.
Institute of Reading Development has developed summer reading programs to help children make substantial gains in reading skills and return to school with increased confidence and excitement about reading. Community organizations nationwide offer programs locally, which are taught by the Institute. For example, programs are offered at locations throughout Illinois by Northern Illinois University’s Outreach. Find a program taught by the Institute of Reading development in Illinois. Programs have been taught in partnership with California State University, East Bay’s Division of Continuing Education, and the Institute of Reading Development, since 1981. Programs may also be offered by your public library.
